After a few weeks of staring at lesson planners, textbooks, reading lists, and resource catalogs, it was wonderfully refreshing to get away and clear my mind for a few days. Nothing like taking some deep breaths with my best friend, eating some good restuarant food, watching some good movies, and taking in some terrain that has angles greater than four degrees. I fly home with my lungs full, my soul nourished, my body rested, my mind cleared...I'm ready to hit the books again, hear my kids' stories, fill the kitchen with good smells, pour myself into making memories and smiles for all the wonderful people who live in my house and all the ones who come and go. The dividends of a few days away are out of all proportion to the costs and I am grateful to God and all those who make it possible. Thank you John, thank you kids, thank you Lyric...
Okay, so my desk is semi-cleared, work surfaces straightened, school plans about 2/3 done and now I give myself a reward trip. I try to do this every summer, not only because I need a break but also as a kind of "carrot" to keep me working toward the goal. We'll have a family vacation later in the summer but this one is just for me and even though it's short will bring more rest and leisure than the road trip, which will be lots of fun in totally different ways, and lots more work!
So far I've spent a small fortune on sheet protectors, colored sharpies, binders, dividers, and planners, not to mention all the books I've found on ebay and half.com. Still lots to do, but now it's all "seeable" so I'm taking a deep breath and enjoying the view. How about you??
