Yesterday I opened an email from Dayspring promoting one of their products and it was like a magic carpet, speeding me back nearly a half century to my childhood breakfast table. My parents made generous and creative use of the Our Daily Bread Promise Box in teaching us Scripture and helping us think about applying it to daily life. And when we were at Grandma's, it was on her table as well. We'd fight for the privilege of being the one to read it each day.
Of all the metaphors that Scripture uses to describe itself, I think my favorite is "The Bread of Life." And I am certain that it's because of my early memories of this "bread box" that it's so meaningful to me. So I'm going to order a new set and begin using it with my children (and grandchildren when they're here.) What a simple, meaningful (and totally LOW-tech!) way to share Scripture together and draw the parallels between our daily bread and THE Daily Bread.
Any of you ever use this or have memories of it being at your childhood table?
