If you've romped around the blogosphere a bit, you've run across blog conventions such as "Wordless Wednesday" and "Works-for-me Wednesday." I enjoy seeing the photos and the great tips on Wednesday, but I've decided to do something a little different at Granny's House.
If you know Granny very well, you know that I love the richness of the English language and I love reading people who use words artistically to craft memorable images. I deplore sloppiness in the language, even though I'm sometimes guilty of the same; I love refining my own knowledge and use of language and I love helping others learn and grow as well.
So. I'm going to institute my own Wednesday convention: "Words on Wednesday." Each Wednesday I'll share a pair of words that are commonly confused or misunderstood, a word that is frequently misspelled or misused, a word that is a favorite of mine or that is interesting for some reason, or perhaps a fun way to remember the spelling or meaning of a pesky word. Maybe you'll find me addressing one of your own pet peeves; maybe you'll find out that you've always been mispronouncing or misspelling a word and can polish up your own speaking and writing. And if you'd like to submit a question or a suggestion for this "column," feel free to do that and I'll be happy to research it and then give you MY opinion.
Because after all, this IS Granny's House :-)
(Unless I get particularly inspired in the next couple of weeks of getting ready for vacation, Words on Wednesday will begin after Labor Day.)
