I've always liked, well okay, almost loved, Charlie Gibson. Back when I used to watch network morning shows, he was my favorite and I believed him to be the fairest of interviewers. I haven't seen him much since he took over the evening news, but I'd had no real reasons to change my opinion of him...until this week. How disappointing to see his supercilious, look-down-your-nose questioning of Sarah Palin this week. So I was very glad to see Charles Krauthammer, the initiator of the term "Bush Doctrine", set the record (and Gibson) straight on a few things.
For those of you who know me, my pantry, and my fetish for vintage waffle irons, I'm happy to report that I am not an anomaly in the universe.
I can't claim to agree with George Will 100% of the time, but the man is a genius...and not in just one arena. When he speaks, I always listen. Today he reviews a book that I ordered the minute I read the review. I'll come back and give it my thumbs up (or thumbs down, not likely) after I've read it, but I can't imagine that it isn't going to be used in the high school curriculum at our house. For those familiar with Whatever Happened to Penny Candy, this appears to be a more sophisticated version of the same thing, a lesson we ALL need in the dismal science. Please read Will's review and then check out the book: The Price of Everything: A Parable of Possibility and Prosperity

Our first week of school was very interesting. For the most part, it went just like we had it on paper. There were a few glitches, but they're easily worked out. I'm away for most of the second week so things will have to run on auto-pilot for four days and then we'll fine-tune next week. What we did prove is that what looks like an inhuman amount of activity and juggling can, if carefully choreographed, actually be done. Whether we can keep it up until Christmas remains to be seen!
And now for some pictures of Fabulous Friday! I don't yet have any of the ones that were taken with the good cameras, so these from my phone will have to do...
The afternoon began with Pastor Dirk's logic class...
...and Shelley's piano students...
Then it was time for the younger PE class, taught by Pastor Dirk and assisted by John Michael L. and assorted parents...
...while CJ taught Latin to the older class...
Then, it was time to stop for snacks!
Now it's time for the older PE class...
...while the little ones begin Latin.
Meanwhile, lots of times for Mommies to socialize...
....little ones to play...
...teens to hang out...
...studious Moms to work on their own assignments...
...and everyone to have a good time!
Thanks to all who were involved in our first Fab Friday, and especially to the great kids who live at Granny's House and did most all the cleaning, organizing and logistics. It was a success!
